Wellness and Aging

We've been successfully serving consumers for nearly 60 years. Our services benefit consumers in six areas: Assisting them in reaching their highest potential, respecting their choices as adults, protecting their rights and interests, teaching advocacy and self-help skills, offering moral support to consumers and their families and raising community awareness and enlisting support.

The CP Center is ADA-accessible and fully accredited by the Rehabilitation Accreditation Commission (CARF) and Department of Social Services.

The Oakland Unified School District, Pleasant Valley Adult School offers a wide variety of classes at the CP Center.

Adult Development Center

The Adult Development Center supports consumers in: learning self-help skills, developing communication skills, increasing personal independence, increasing academic skills, increasing mobility and community access, increasing computer skills (e.g., reading, writing, information-gathering,vocational and recreational skills).

The CP Center is pioneering in assistive technology, integrating computer technology into its Adult Development Center program. Visit our Computer Learning Center.

CITI Program

Based on a successful summer pilot program two years' running, the Cerebral Palsy Center has launched its new Community Involvement Towards Independence (CITI) program. The Program is based from a site in downtown Oakland. Consumers use this site as a point from which to explore and learn in the community. Participants in the program learn important new skills: using public transportation, managing money, improving communication, and developing work skills through volunteer tasks at nonprofit businesses. Stay tuned for more news about the program and it's participants!

Work Activity Program

Consumers earn wages in our Work Activity Program (WAP) while learning work skills (e.g., data entry and other office-related work). The WAP participants provide services of our new commercial mailing house (e.g., bulk mailing, shrink wrapping, packaging). Satisfied customers include: Cody's Bookstore, WindRiver Systems, East Bay Municipal Utilities District, the Jewish Federation, Osborne McGraw-Hill, the Oakland Army Base, Gerorge Martin Company, Fred Finch Youth Center, Festival of the Lake, Simposon Strong Tie and Lanier Publishing. See our list of services.
